Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee
The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is located in the
Appalachian Mountains in the North Carolina and Tennessee
area. Although the park is the most visited national park in the
United States with 9-10 million visitors a year, traffic is
mostly limited to the larger streets. The 450 km of secondary
roads and the 1,400 km of hiking trails in the park are not very
frequented. The forest covering the park is one of the oldest
forests in the world and is the habitat of a diverse flora and
fauna. Access to the park is via the 750 km Blue Ridge Parkway
that connects Shenandoah National Park with the Great Smoky
Mountains National Park.
On a sunny and clear day, you should climb the Clingman Dome,
from where you can look down for miles on the green hills of the
Appalachian Mountains. To see wild animals such as black bears,
deer and turkeys, you should visit the open areas of Cades Cove
and Cataloochee. The most idyllic places in the Great Smoky
Mountains National Park with waterfalls and beautiful nature are
in the Deep Creek and Roaring Fork regions.
Highlights Great Smoky Mountains

paradise, you can ride here on one of the few bike paths in
the park.
- Roaring Fork
The Roaring Fork Motor Nature Trail is one of the most
popular trails in the park. In addition to the magnificent
nature with many waterfalls, historical buildings are also
highlights of the trail.
- Mountain Farm Museum

Great Smoky Mountains National Park
Great Smoky Mountains National Park, nature park in the Great Smoky Mountains
between Tennessee and North Carolina in the southern Appalachians, USA; approx. 2000
km2. The park was created in 1934 to preserve the species-rich
deciduous forest that covers the entire area, including the highest point,
Clingman's Dome (2020 m). Until the 1830s, the area was home to the Cherokee
Indians, whose few descendants now live off tourism in the adjacent Eastern
Cherokee Indian Reservation.
